The First Electrical & Electronic Waste Summit Of Turkey Was Held İn ITU

anel (1) (Medium)E-Waste is a National Asset

The first ‘Electrical & Electronic Waste Summit’ of Turkey was held in Istanbul Technical University between 5th and 6th of March, 2015 in cooperation with the Sustainable Production & Consumption Association and Energy Efficiency Association.  AnelDoğa, being the first to build an electrical and electronic waste recycling center in Turkey, took part in this summit and Sibel Özcan, GM of AnelDoğa and Committee Chairwoman of Geksander AEEE, addressed the extent of e-waste management recycling in Turkey.

The annual global total of electronic waste adds up to 40 to 50 million tones.  Researches made in Europe suggest that an individual generates at least 15 kg of e-waste annually. While the technological advancements cause the amount of waste per individual to increase dramatically with the increased consumption, the ratio for Turkey is approximately 4 kg per individual.

anel (2) (Medium)The usage of old and inefficient products in homes and industry is a factor increasing the energy consumption of a country impairing its economy. These products which are discarded to landfills instead of being recycled pose a danger to the nature.

For example, 250 kg equivalent CO2generation in nature is avoided by recycling a refrigerator. These issues were addressed and Turkey’s e-waste status was evaluated in the first ‘Electrical & Electronic Waste Summit’ of Turkey which was held in Istanbul Technical University between 5th and 6th of March, 2015 in cooperation with the Sustainable Production & Consumption Association and Energy Efficiency Association.

E-Waste is a National Asset and It Should be Managed Properly

anel (4) (Medium)AnelDoğa, as a company operating in discarded electrical and electronic goods processing, expired equipment processing, scrap metal processing, hazardous waste recycling and interim storage, nonhazardous waste recycling, expired tire interim storage, battery interim storage and waste management fields, stands out with its electrical and electronic waste recycling facility which is a first in Turkey.

Sibel Özcan, GM of AnelDoğa, one of the golden sponsors, and Committee Chairwoman of Geksander* AEEE, in her speech in this important summit, said, “The lack of management regarding e-wastes, a national asset, not being recycled is one of the major issues of our country as it is for the rest of the world. Our country generates 300,000 tones of electrical and electronic waste yet unfortunately a very small fraction of this amount is processed by licensed companies. Unfortunately, Turkey is one of the top scrap importers in the world. The raw material used in steel production in our country is sourced 28% from domestic scrap and 66% from imported scrap. Scrap import comprises 4% of our total import.

As AnelDoğa, we are very keen to act upon the social responsibility around the e-waste awareness as well as our business operations. We believe it is important to support such organizations which address industrial improvements while banding industry players together.  Commercially, on the other hand, we believe that it is important to be up-to-date with the advancements both in Turkey and the world, to learn about the innovations in the industry, and to create new business and communication opportunities.”

Sustainable Production and Consumption Association Awards AnelDoğa

AnelDoğa, as a company which has conducted 100% guaranteed demolition and recycling projects and as a business partner of several international companies, was deemed worthy of the ‘Electrical and Electronic Waste Heroes Award’ by the Sustainable Production and Consumption Association for its achievements in electrical and electronic waste management in production and consumption. AnelDoğa was therefore crowned for its contribution to e-waste recycling.
