Within the scope of the project, which is worth nearly 700 million euros, Prysmian PowerlinkS.r.l., one of the Prysmian Group companies, will undertake the design, production and installation of the world's longest connected power transmission connecting the UK and Denmark using a total of 1,250 km of submarine cables for the submarine route and approximately 135 km of land cables within the UK borders.
World cable giant Prysmian Group has announced that it has won the Viking Link project, the first submarine cable connection between the UK and Denmark. Bring safe, renewable and sustainable energy to more than 1.4 million homes
The project, which will be the world's longest High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) connected power transmission network, will operate at ±525 kV DC voltage. The cables, which will be produced with single-core "MassImpregnatedPaperInsulated" cable technology, will pass through the waters of the UK, the Netherlands, Germany and Denmark and will allow up to 1,400 MW of electrical power to be transmitted between the two countries. reducing the UK's electricity costs; the HVDC wiring system, which will deliver safe, renewable and sustainable energy to more than 1.4 million homes; It will connect the converter centre at Bicker Fen in Lincolnshire, England, to the converter centre in Revsing in South Jutland, Denmark.
Stating that this project once again proves that Prysmian Group is the undisputed leader of its sector and technology, Hakan Özmen, Prysmian Group Vice President of Projects , said, "Our goal is to support our customers who want to implement more sustainable and smarter energy scenarios and to provide them with all the necessary resources."
All cables to be used in the project will be produced at the Prysmian Group's Centre of Excellence at ArcoFelice (Italy). The laying of the project's submarine cables will be carried out using a new and modern assembly vessel from PrysmianGroup. This strategic vessel with an investment value exceeding €170 million will strengthen PrysmianGroup's position as a one-stop solution provider and add flexibility to the project thanks to its advanced features. The project is planned to be commissioned by the end of 2023.
