ABB and Samsung Electronics will collaborate in a global partnership to develop jointly developed technologies for the energy saving, energy management and intelligent internet of things (IoT) connectivity of both residential and commercial buildings. Buildings account for about 40 percent of annual global CO2 emissions1. Partnership; Within the framework of long-term cooperation for intelligent technology, intelligent control and innovation in smart devices, it will innovate holistic energy management to reduce carbon emissions and save energy in residential and commercial buildings.
The collaboration will enable Samsung and ABB to increase customer access to home automation technologies and enable better device management, while facilitating the management of electrical load. Smart homes use connected devices and assembly integrated through a central system to save money, time and energy. For example, by connecting the Samsung SmartThings app and ABB home automation solutions, residents will be able to monitor and manage the entire range of white goods as well as gas and smoke sensors, energy, safety and comfort systems from a single app using their personal devices. Proactively managing appliances such as dishwashers and washing machines guarantees grid optimization and lower energy costs.
Mike Mustapha, Head of Smart Buildings Business Line at ABB, said: "By further developing access to fully integrated and holistic smart building technology, we envision a future where our customers can achieve significant carbon and energy savings. The partnership with a key technology innovation leader such as Samsung Electronics further enhances ABB's vision and solutions of connecting all buildings with open and agnostic solutions and providing insights into total energy consumption, including elements such as electric vehicle (EA) charging. This not only minimizes the carbon footprint from the environment being built, but also ensures a smooth and engaging user experience."
In parallel with home automation solutions, the two companies plan to expand the collaboration between Samsung Electronic heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) products and variable flow refrigerant (VRF) room control system, as well as the ABB HVAC control system for commercial buildings and multi-residential developments.
Chanwoo Park, President of Samsung Electronics IoT Business Line, said: "The merger of the two companies also facilitates smart building projects for construction companies and property developers. To retrofit existing buildings or new facilities with a single source of solutions, they can be confident that products will integrate and work together seamlessly. In addition, since there is only one platform for the whole system, the after-sales experience will be improved."
