BEDAŞ, which continues its technology investments in order to provide uninterrupted and high quality energy to its subscribers, has started to implement G3-PLC technology, which allows remote reading of smart meters, in two pilot regions within the scope of the CALLIA project. BEDAŞ has implemented this technology in cooperation with the German giant AG.
Boğaziçi Elektrik Dağıtım A.Ş., which provides electricity distribution services to more than 5 million subscribers on the European Side of Istanbul. (BEDAŞ), in cooperation with German giant AG, started to test G3-PLC technology in smart meter communication. Within the scope of the test studies of the project carried out jointly by BEDAŞ and devolo AG, the G3-PLC technology field experiment was installed. The test results of the study carried out within the scope of the CALLIA project, which will ensure that energy production and consumption are balanced between distribution regions according to the constraints of the distribution and transmission network, have high reading rates. G3-PLC technology, which aims to work on the planning, implementation and demonstration of a new advanced measurement infrastructure (AMI) system, was primarily implemented in the pilot regions of Kumburgaz and Bakırköy. If this technology is integrated into the region where BEDAŞ is responsible, it will provide advantages such as reducing energy costs, accessing consumer information more healthily, and supporting quality and uninterrupted electricity distribution service. At the end of the project, which aims to remotely read the smart meters and connect them to the network control center, a new IP-based data transfer will be possible with G3-PLC technology in the frequency range of 150-500 kHz.

Stating that they provide electricity distribution services to an area of 3,573 km² in Istanbul, BEDAŞ project managers said, "We think that PLC technologies will be an integral part of the smart grid in Istanbul. The results of our field experiment highlight G3-PLC technology among the alternatives in the field of remote meter reading." Stating that G3-PLC has proven its expertise in PLC technologies, devolo AG Strategic Positioning and Innovation Manager Dr. Anil Mengi said, "This technology is able to establish a stable and reliable connection between circuits without using repeaters, even at long distances. The integration of the G3-PLC, which uses the mains resource at a low voltage level as the infrastructure for communication, is also realized at a very low cost."
