Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, which has affected the world and has seen many economic effects, record growth in the field of renewable energy is remarkable. In the Renewable Energy 2020 Report published by the International Energy Agency (IEA), it is seen that the renewable energy capacity commissioned between January and October has achieved record growth with an increase of 15% compared to the same period last year.

Renewable Energy Research Association – YENADER President Prof. Dr. Kerem Alkin evaluated the IEA 2020 report: "The European Union plans to increase the share of renewable energy in total power generation capacity to 32 percent by 2030. According to the World Energy Agency's 2020 report, an average capacity increase of 130 to 165 GW is expected between 2023 and 2025 in solar energy, while investments in wind power plants installed on the sea and ocean will double compared to 2020. The future is in renewable energy."

The coronavirus outbreak, which affects the global economy and daily life all over the world, has turned the world and its economy and sociology upside down since the beginning of 2020. RENEWABLE ENERGY IS CRISIS RESISTANT

The report states that a 5% decrease in global energy demand is observed with the decrease in fossil fuel production and sharp price decreases, and that there is a 1% increase in renewable energy demand worldwide. Emphasizing that renewable energy markets are resilient to the crisis compared to other sectors, the report states that the renewable energy sector will grow by about 7% in 2020, unlike all other fuels.

GROWTH ABOVE EXPECTATIONS AGAINST THE PANDEMIC DRAWS ATTENTION

In the first six months of 2020, when the coronavirus outbreak spread, disruptions in the supply chain and the postponement of new investments caused renewable energy projects to slow down, while it is emphasized that the same investments have accelerated since the second half of the year. However, one of the important findings of the report is that the renewable energy capacity commissioned between January and October is 15% higher than the same period last year, which is a new record. It is stated that this positive development may be above the expectations of even energy experts.

Stating that the increase in technology and capacity investments in the field of 'renewable energy' since 2010 has brought forward as the most 'indispensable' strategic move to save the world from a 'real disaster', Renewable Energy Research Association – YENADER President Prof. Dr. Kerem Alkin made the following statements about the report: "While the European Union (EU) aims to increase the share of renewable energy in total energy production capacity to 32 percent by 2030, it has agreed on a 750 billion Euro 'improvement' fund in order to adapt to climate change and reduce its impact. In the field of solar energy, where an average capacity increase of 130 to 165 GW is expected between 2023 and 2025, another 36 percent decrease will be added to the 82 percent decrease in production costs between 2010 and 2020. Investments in wind power plants on the sea and ocean will double compared to 2020."

RENEWABLE ENERGY GROWTH CONTINUES!

Stating that renewable energy sources have achieved record growth compared to previous years, YENADER Vice President Ali Karaduman said, "It is stated that renewable energy , which shows its resilience against the coronavirus outbreak, will grow by almost 7% in 2020. The report is very important in terms of emphasizing the increase in the use of renewable energy sources in electricity production in 2020, which is described as a challenging year. Due to the increasing population and developing technology all over the world, the need for energy is increasing day by day. Especially in this process, our country needs to evaluate renewable energy sources correctly and urgently focus on its work in this field. The breaking of the one-day energy record in wind energy with 151,325 MWh on Friday, November 6 shows that we are on the right track. Clean energy is essential for the future."

"RAPID GROWTH WILL CONTINUE UNTIL 2022"

Evaluating the report, which stated that the shares of solar energy companies, one of the most accelerated investments of the year, more than doubled in value in October 2020 compared to the end of last year, YENADER Secretary General Energy Systems Expert Dr. Füsun Tut Hakdır: "This rapid increase in renewable energy is expected to continue until 2022.completion of renewable energy incentive periods in China and some countries in 2022; that from this date onwards, it will determine the pace of renewable energy.
