GE Renewable Energy has signed an agreement with Türkerler Holding and RT Enerji to supply 49 3MW onshore wind turbines to five wind farms in Turkey. The project, which has a total capacity of 158 MW, will provide renewable energy equivalent to the energy needs of 183 thousand houses in the region. The 147 wind turbine blades to be used in the project will be produced at GE's LM Wind Power plant in Bergama, Izmir.
GE Renewable Energy announced today that it has signed an agreement with Türkerler Holding and RT Enerji to supply equipment to five onshore wind power plants: Kirazlı, Meryem, Şile, Pamukova and Mahmut Şevket. GE's 49 3MW onshore wind turbines will be installed in Izmir, Bilecik, Sakarya and Istanbul. The project, which has a total capacity of 158 MW, will provide the region with renewable energy corresponding to the energy needs of 183 thousand houses. The project also includes a 10-year service agreement.
GE's LM Wind Power plant in Bergama, Izmir, where more than 450 employees are located, will produce the blades of all turbines, totaling 147 under the agreement. Commissioned in July 2017, it is LM Wind Power's 15th facility worldwide and the first to become operational since joining GE Renewable Energy. The facility aims to meet the needs of the rapidly growing Turkish wind energy sector. The towers and generators of the wind turbines will also be of domestic production.
In a joint statement, RT Enerji & Türkerler said, "GE and RT Enerji & Türkerler have established a strong relationship and we are very happy to work together again. We are making an intense effort to help Turkey work towards its sustainable energy goals, and these wind farms are also a step in the right direction. Turkey is among the richest countries in the world in terms of renewable energy sources called clean energies. As GE and RT Enerji & Türkerler, we invest in clean energy, in other words, in nature. We are happy and proud of this investment we have made to meet the energy needs of future generations and to minimize the damage to the environment."
GE Renewable Energy Middle East, North Africa and Turkey President and CEO Dr. Manar Al Moneef said: "As one of the first international companies to invest in Turkey, GE remains committed to creating jobs in the energy sector and contributing to the development of high technologies. We are delighted to be collaborating with Türkerler Holding and RT Enerji on a new collaboration and working together on this exciting project. GE's high-tech 3MW platform turbines are a solution that is well suited to Turkey's wind speeds and environment. With more than 1,200 MW of installed capacity in Turkey, we are proud to bring more renewable and sustainable energy to the region. We look forward to seizing other cooperation opportunities with Türkerler and RT Enerji in the future."
