High Quality Cable Components That Can Be Used In Difficult Working Conditions

Cables used in heavy machinery and equipment in the land, sea and air industries must be reliable enough to operate in the daily routine and durable in the most demanding applications with constant motion. Cables in which high-quality compounds (mixtures) are used in their sheaths and fillers; It will ensure the safety of life, property and long-term operational strength of plants, equipment, machinery, platforms or ships.

Üntel Kablo, one of the world's leading industrial cable manufacturers, produces over 15,000 different cable types for use in various industrial branches. Sectors we serve;

  • Shipbuilding Industry & Other Marine Applications
  • Industrial Plants & Factories
  • Oil & Gas
  • Renewable Tnerji
  • Ports and Terminals
  • Airports
  • Railways
  • Mines & Tunnels
  • Petrochemical plants & Refineries

The outer sheath compounds of the cables used in these areas require various features. Some of these are;

  • Flame retardation
  • Low smoke density
  • Resistance to outdoor conditions
  • Cracking resistance during bending
  • High temperature stability
  • Torsional stress and shock resistance
  • Water resistance (at high pressure)
Untel Cables New R&D Center

R&D Center

In order to design original and high-performance products with its expert team to meet customer needs, Üntel Kablo has recently completed the establishment of the R&D Center approved by the Ministry of Industry and Trade by raising one step further and the work that has been done within the company for many years. With many years of experience in the rubber industry, including automobile tire production, department manager Gürcan GÜL and his R&D team work with the company's suppliers, customers and other stakeholders to help develop various cable insulating and sheath compounds used in Untel's wide range of products. The R&D team also provides support for competitiveness in global markets and product and process development projects for emerging markets.

PVC Cable Components

PVC-based compounds, instead of rubber, have been widely used in cable insulation since 1932. Some disadvantages of PVC compounding can be listed as high dielectric strength, high induction loss and heat accumulation. Therefore, PVC-insulated cables only operate at AC voltages up to 10 kV. Mixture formulations can be designed to customize processing conditions, application temperature range, mechanical properties, flexibility and flammability. These:

  • Plasticizers and heat stabilizers can increase the continuous operating temperature limit to 105 °C.
  • Special fillers such as aluminum trihydroxide (ATH) can systematically reduce flammability and smoke formation.

Polyethylene – Systems Cross-Connecting with Hot Steam

Systems that can be crosslinked (cured) by hot steam allow manufacturers to cross-link the polymer matrix without using an expensive curing process that requires a significant amount of energy. These systems offer multifunctional features for customer-specific final product requirements along with lower production costs. Low voltage polyolefin cable applications include:

  • Tools and Equipment
  • Automotive industry
  • Control systems
  • Low voltage power systems
  • UL 44
  • Low voltage, flame retardant products

EPR Based Hot Steam Crossable Systems

EPR-based systems provide enhanced flexibility while maintaining overall performance. With EPR compounds, we can produce low voltage polyolefin cable products for applications such as:

  • Tools and Equipment
  • Automotive industry
  • Control systems
  • Low voltage Power Applications
  • UL 44
  • Low voltage flame retardant products

In addition, the investment cost for EPR cable production is relatively lower.

Peroxide-Crossable EPR Compounds

EPR compounds that can be cross-linked with peroxide offer high temperature stability and high electrical performance. However, manufacturers must have CCV Lines (Catenary Continuous Vulcanisation Lines) to be able to cross-link this type of material. Production in CCV lines is expensive; however, both low and medium voltage cable production is possible. EPR cable applications include:

  • Tools and equipment
  • Control systems
  • Oil & gas
  • Shipbuilding
  • Nuclear
  • Energy Panels
  • UL 44
  • Power distribution
  • Industrial applications
  • Mine
  • UL 1072

Cross-linked Polyolefin Compounds

Cross-linkable, elastomeric polyolefin mixtures offer high temperature, good mechanical and electrical values and thermal stability. Elastomeric mixtures are used in certain products listed below:

  • Low and medium voltage / XLPE insulation with high voltage filling
  • Low-voltage flame retardant polyolefin insulation
  • Battery cables
  • Low voltage VW-1 ship insulations
  • Low voltage flame retardant EPR insulation

It includes the following applications;

  • Control systems
  • Industrial applications
  • Power distribution
  • Shipbuilding
  • UL 44
  • Oil & gas
  • Automotive industry

Thermoplastic Low Smoke Density, Halogen-Free Flame Retardant (LSZH, FR) Cable Sheath Compounds

LSZH (Low Smoke, Zero Halogen) mixtures can be used for the following properties in halogen-free cable applications:

  • Good flame retardant
  • Heat and deformation resistance
  • Resistance to environmental factors and chemicals
  • Low smoke density provides low toxic smoke and no acid release.
  • Advanced mechanical properties

These cables are preferred for various enclosed spaces, oil and gas applications, areas with insufficient ventilation such as tunnels or railways.

Filler Compounds

Halogen-free, flame retardant cable filler mixtures can be used as filler mixtures. These mixtures help to maintain cable shape, fill gaps and gaps, prevent deformation, reduce water ingress and provide flame retardant properties in addition to the overall cable structure.

In addition to the aforementioned compounds, the cables produced by Üntel also address many other types of compounds, which have recently begun to be used in various new industrial applications. Some of these materials include:

  • TPU
  • TPE-E
  • LSF PVC
  • TPV – TPR

Üntel Kabloları's products are highly respected and widely used in a wide range of industry sectors thanks to its international recognition with its cables certified by over 200 reputable organizations with half a century of experience and cables. Üntel Cables continues to develop and improve new cables to meet new emerging markets.
