Iraq Agrees with Turkey to Improve Transmission and Production Capacity
Iraq has reached an agreement with Turkey to import electricity, develop domestic transmission and generation capacity Iraq has reached an agreement with Turkey to import electricity and develop domestic transmission and generation capacity. According to Iraq's NRT, citing the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity, the ministry announced in a statement that a delegation including Iraqi officials reached an agreement as a result of talks with Turkey. The agreement between Turkey and Iraq consists of 3 articles; – Turkish companies will help increase the production capacity of natural gas-fired power plants. – Electricity transmission towers will be built in cooperation with the General Company of Steel Industries. – Iraq will import 300 megawatts of electricity from Turkey through Mosul without being distributed elsewhere. While it was stated that the agreement came as a result of the protests carried out especially in Iraq, the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity announced that the total demand in the country was at the level of 23,000 MW in 2017, and the current decrease is about 45 percent.
