Mersen continues to develop circuit protection devices and equipment for direct current installations. The photovoltaic sector is currently experiencing unparalleled growth for in-grid systems and its own consumption, and therefore special attention is required on the safety of installed systems.


Mersen's 'HelioProtection' range is aimed at markets where power levels exceed 100 kW and includes fuses and fuse holders to protect electrical installations consisting of more than three arrays. In addition to fuses and fuse holders, Mersen also offers lightning rods and cut-off switches for 1000V DC and 1500V DC systems. All products in Mersen's product range comply with the standards applicable to photovoltaic installations.
New 1XL and 2XL Limited Distribution Fuses


In addition to the 'HP15NH 1500V DC 3L' fuses ranging from 160A to 400A, Mersen now also offers new '1XL' and '2XL' fuses ranging from 50A to 250A, especially for low power installations. They are characterized by a 20% reduction in heat-related energy loss, compared with other fuses of equivalent size.
The HP15NH 3L, 1XL and 2XL fuses are attached directly to the busbars or to a fuse holder. For ease of maintenance, Mersen has developed two types of fuse holders, one with an open base and one protected against involuntary contact, one for 1XL insurance and the other for 2XL and 3L fuses, which are available in two versions. The entire 'HelioProtection' product range complies with IEC and UL standards.
New 'Helio Protection' Fuse Holder with Swivel Angle
Mersen has designed a new 'HelioProtection' fuse holder with a rotating gripper. This model is designed for cylindrical fuses from 1A to 32 A, which are mounted on the protective base of each array. This DIN rail-mounted fuse holder, which makes it easier to open than a drawer-style holder, complements the screwdriving model previously available in the product range.
New Type 1 and Type 2 Lightning Rods

Mersen is launching 1500V DC type 1 and type 2 lightning rods. The removable cartridge is compatible with the 'PCB Plug-in 1500V DC' lightning rod released in 2018. Complying with 'IEC 61643-31', 'EN-50539-11' and 'UL 1449 PV' standards for photovoltaic installations, this internal system is specially designed to eliminate the need for a protective fuse line of the installation.
