Eaton's comprehensive portfolio of PowerXL frequency inverters goes mobile: Eaton's new drivesConnect app turns any smartphone or tablet into a human machine interface, making it easier for machine builders and operators to parameterize the new DB1 series (cold coating unit) as well as DE1, DC1 and DA1 speed controllers. The aforementioned drivesConnect app is based on Eaton's installed software of the same name. In both online and offline mode; users can use their mobile devices to create and edit data arrays through Android and iOS compatible apps, as well as access to the user-friendly parameter structure. This app also includes the monitoring and control functions of the desktop version. For example, this app can be used to operate speed controllers or diagnose faults. Via Bluetooth or the modern Near Field Communication (NFC) standard, up to two data sequences can be transferred from mobile devices to the Eaton DX-COM-STICK. To enable data to be transferred via NFC, the mobile device must be within a few inches of the DX-COM-STICK (which is not powered on). Using NFC standards not only allows data to be transferred quickly, but also makes the process safer if the required distance of communication devices is provided. The parameters to be transferred must finally be attached to the DX-COM-STICK respective frequency inverter. The Eaton DX-COM-STICK is a Bluetooth communication stick for transferring parameters to the frequency inverters of the PowerXL range and connects speed controllers via the entregre COM port. During the introduction of NFC technology, this bar was revised and made to meet the new Bluetooth standards for iOS. In parallel with the release of the revised DX-COM-STICK and DB1 in 2018, the app is available for free download through the Apple App Store (for iOS) and Google Play Store (for Android systems).
