Prysmian's Leonardo Da Vinci Ship Will Play Key Role for a Carbon-Free World

Prysmian Group aims for a carbon-free Europe by 2050 with its state-of-the-art cable-laying ship Leonardo Da Vinci, built with an investment of more than 170 million euros. The 171-meter Leonardo da Vinci, which will be delivered to the Prysmian Group in 2021, will be the most advanced cable laying ship in the world when its construction is completed.

With the Leonardo da Vinci ship, the Prysmian Group will lead the way for Europe to become carbon-neutral by 2050. Raul Gil, Unit Vice President, Submarine Cables, Prysmian Group, said: "Prysmian Group is a world leader in the energy and telecommunications cables industry. Thanks to our unique expertise, production capacity and assembly capabilities, we are often the choice for the world's largest projects. In addition, the Leonardo da Vinci vessel is critical to ensuring the growth of our market share in the future." Said.

"Da Vinci is equipped with the latest technology"

Acting on the mission that green energy should be accessible to everyone, Prysmian Group is working to bring the world together with its own cable technology; it is also building infrastructures that will enable green energy to transition to a zero-emission world. Equipped with the latest technology, the Leonardo Da Vinci ship is a ship that not only has the highest carrying capacity and pulling power, but can also work for a long time in difficult weather conditions, descending to the deepest points. Raul Gil said, "This means that by implementing faster and safer, and at a lower cost, we will be able to carry more cables. Thanks to this vessel, we will be able to offer wider and more versatile assembly services to our users and strengthen our leading position in this competitive sector."

"Prysmian is also a pioneer in sustainability and decarbonization in its sector"

The Prysmian Group has been placed on the world list in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, the most important international index that evaluates the environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance of nearly 2,700 companies. This sustainability journey, which began years ago, is based on clear and comprehensive goals that cover all the main ESG themes under the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.

Prysmian Group Submarine and High Voltage Projects Unit Head Hakan Özmen says; "By highlighting our sustainable product innovation, such as recyclable cables containing less precious metals, we are making a special effort to improve our environmental performance across the entire supply chain. In short, we aim to make energy resources used more cleanly and intelligently, and to support the digitalization and decarbonization of economies. Leonardo da Vinci is just one part of our whole effort."

The Group's projects around the world bring many innovations to cable delivery, enabling it to go beyond borders. These studies, which are driving the market for submarine cables, represent the capacity to carry more power with fewer resources. The longer the submarine transmission cables lengthen, the greater the depths and the higher the power ratings; cable and system manufacturers are also facing more technical challenges than ever before. "We believe that there should be no limit to an unreachable distance or depth and the tension that can be transmitted. To be a leader is to know how to innovate to develop products with a lower environmental impact by adding higher value to our customers."

"Deeper, Lighter, Longer, Greener"

As a technology provider, Prysmian Group plays an important role in the renewable energy sector and offers new and reliable solutions to the fast-growing offshore, wind and solar energy markets that help reduce costs and increase productivity. Continuing with the motto 'Deeper, Lighter, Longer, Greener', Prysmian Group demonstrates its commitment to supporting smarter and greener power transmission networks around the world and also meets all needs with the Leonardo da Vinci ship.
