EBRD: We will continue to do business in Turkey

European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Turkey Director Arvid Tuerkner, stating that they have achieved a success story since 2009 when they have been operating in Turkey and that they have made the most investments in Turkey, said, "We believe in the long-term development of Turkey. Even if the conditions become more difficult, we will continue to do business in Turkey." Pointing out that the EBRD has invested 11 billion euros in public and private sector investments in Turkey since 2009, Tuerkner said, "In this process, the EBRD has achieved a success story in Turkey. Turkey is still the country where we invest the most. We have very good customers here. The private sector is very important to us. We make about 96 percent of the investments in the private sector." "WE WILL SUPPORT AS LONG AS APPETITE CONTINUES" Stating that the Bank has full confidence in the long-term development of the Turkish economy, Tuerkner said that he believes that the recent volatility will be stabilized with the right decisions to be taken. Tuerkner made the following remarks: "The Turkish economy is going through difficult times, there are very volatile conditions. Despite the difficult conditions, we are open for investments. Recently, we signed the petitions to support a private sector firm. We will continue to be open to projects like this. But of course we will choose more carefully. We will work with clients who are resilient and can survive in the long term.   Turkey is the largest of the countries in which the EBRD operates. The EBRD operates on a demand-based basis. We'll look at the environment. If the appetite and willingness to invest continues, we will continue to provide support. We believe in the long-term development of Turkey. Even if the conditions become more difficult, we will continue to do business in Turkey." Tuerkner stated that it is difficult to predict what the next period will bring in the EBRD's credit support to Turkey and that this will depend on new investments and applications made to them, adding that they attach special importance to renewable energy, exporting companies and women's employment.
