Approximately 3 million 500 thousand Euros of support from the EU to Zorlu Energy's projects

Within the scope of the Horizon 2020 Program, the EU's largest research and innovation program, Zorlu Energy was entitled to receive approximately 3 million 500 thousand Euros in funding with 6 separate projects developed by its own engineers.

With its investment in R&D, Zorlu Energy has become the door of our country opening to the outside world in energy by carrying its know-how to projects based on international collaborations. Zorlu Energy, which continues to work with the aim of becoming a reference point in the sector, has also attracted the attention of the European Union with its R&D projects developed by its own engineers. Within the scope of the Horizon 2020 Program, which is the largest research and innovation program of the EU and will be implemented between 2014 and 2020, it was entitled to receive a total of 3 million 500 thousand Euros in funding with 6 separate projects. Especially new applications developed in the field of geothermal energy are the first in the world.

Zorlu Energy CEO Sinan Ak, who made evaluations on the subject, said that they are happy to take part in projects developed by young engineers on an international scale, including expert companies, educational institutions and reputable companies from different countries of Europe. "We are proud to be a globally referenced company in the energy sector. These supports given by the EU show that we are on the right track," Ak said. He added that they will continue to pursue their short, medium and long term plans in line with their growth targets, especially in renewable energy.

Projects receiving support...

Zorlu Energy obtained 3 of the supports it received from the EU through the projects it developed in the field of geothermal energy. The first of these projects was GECO , which aims at the sustainable management of natural mineral resources. The project, which is carried out by a total of 18 institutions from countries such as France, England, Italy, Iceland and Germany, in which only Zorlu Energy and Middle East Technical University are involved from Turkey, aims to carry out international field applications in the field of reducing emissions to zero by eliminating carbon dioxide and similar gases in order to ensure sustainability in geothermal fields.

The " GeoSmart Project" , which includes energy storage works and where Kızıldere 1 Geothermal Power Plant is designated as a demo site, is another project supported by the EU; With this project, it is aimed to store the energy required for the continuation of electricity production in case of instant interruptions and high electricity demand that may occur in the network and to maintain the efficiency of electricity transmission to the network in order to produce electricity and heat.

GeoPro, where the method previously applied only in the oil sector was adapted to geothermal, was the third project to receive support from the EU.Thanks to the planned method in the project, which is a first in the sector, the properties of the geothermal fluid will be monitored instantly with software and models starting from the reservoir to the operation stage, so that some of the classic and time-consuming laboratory applications will be integrated into the technology to save time and increase productivity.

Also a pioneer in electricity distribution

"Not only in the field of geothermal energy; We also receive the support of the EU in the field of electricity distribution", Sinan Ak said, adding that they are happy to cooperate with the European Union for 3 projects on issues that closely concern the future of the energy sector.

The Flexigrid project on the distribution grid for flexibility and retail market options will provide a transparent data management platform that will provide information about grid conditions using smart technologies.  

The PlaMES project, which investigates technological development for the planning of multiple energy systems, aims to determine an optimized roadmap to meet carbon targets and renewable energy requirements at the transmission and distribution level with integrated planning to be developed.

The BD4OPEM project was the last project to receive support in this field. The BD4OPEM project, which allows the follow-up of big data for the open innovation energy market, aims to create the energy ecosystem of the future.
