Danfoss NovoCon®: The intelligent actuator

While concepts such as the internet of things (IoT) and big data have become a part of our lives, it is possible to access almost everything from bank account to toaster over the internet. Given that connectivity and data will become important factors in the design and construction of buildings, the HVAC world will change in the coming years. Danfoss has designed the NovoCon® actuator together with market leader PIBCV to help with this digitalization. NovoCon® is an actuator that can be connected to the Building Management System (BMS) network. Compared to other actuators that can connect to objects, the NovoCon® actuator provides the necessary data by offloading many manual tasks to the computer and reducing the number of components in the system. NovoCon® smart actuator simplifies operations, saving time and costs Distinguished in the world of smart actuators for adding value to connectivity, NovoCon® can also serve as an access point for several components in the system. Temperature sensors, switches and thermostats can be connected directly to the NovoCon® actuator, then to the BMS system. Reduces the number of components in the process as it requires fewer I/O modules and therefore simplifies the wiring process. And because fewer components are required, significant cost savings are achieved. There are numerous time-consuming processes during the construction of buildings. Cleaning the system, adjusting the valve flow rate, air evacuation are time-consuming processes that require several checks of each valve. By attaching NovoCon® to the AB-QM valve (Danfoss PIBCV), all this can be done from the BMS monitor. In this way, the adjustment of the valve, cleaning the system and air evacuation can be completed with a click. In addition to saving time, this ensures that the remaining construction process continues uninterrupted, for example, the ceilings can be closed without having to wait for the end of commissioning. One of the main functions of the BMS system is to ensure that the HVAC system operates at peak performance. NovoCon® records some of the basic operating parameters such as number of movements, fieldbus operations, voltage levels and operating time. This makes it much easier to maintain control and replace the actuator in a timely manner. With the addition of temperature sensors, NovoCon® can also record energy use. In addition, many faults can be detected, such as the blockage of the valve, wiring problems and whether the actuator is correctly connected to the valve. These will help the HVAC system run smoothly, healthily and flawlessly.
